Only a couple of weeks into school, a routine has formed. The highlight of our day is now Reading Time. It occupies that lazy hour between lunch and naps, when the three of us get to reconnect after our few hours apart. We snuggle up with the Magic Tree House to see where Jack and Annie's latest adventures bring them. We dive into new picture books from the library. And Elle and I cheer Maya on as she sounds out a stanza from One Fish, Two Fish for us. In the end, Elle dozes off. Maya sneaks downstairs to enjoy her toys or art supplies on her own.
And I fight the urge to join Elle in her nap, instead pecking out a few new words at my desk.
